Mantigue Island

A small forested island and marine sanctuary off the east coast, ringed by white sand

Mantigue is a small, forested island a boat ride off Mahinog on Camiguin’s east coast. A ring of white sand surrounds a patch of tall trees, and the reef around it is a protected marine sanctuary — which makes it one of the best places on Camiguin to snorkel among corals, fish and, with luck, sea turtles.

Visits are managed locally: you register, pay an entrance or environmental fee and hire a boat from the mainland shore. There are basic facilities and huts for picnics but no overnight stays, so it is a day trip.

What to see and do: Mantigue Island

Snorkel the sanctuary

The protected reef is the main reason to come. Snorkel gear can usually be rented on the island; a guide is sometimes required or recommended for the sanctuary area — follow local rules.

Walk around the island

A sandy path circles Mantigue in well under an hour, passing quiet beaches and the shady interior forest.

Picnic on the beach

Bring food or arrange a packed lunch with your accommodation; there are picnic huts to rent. Some tours include lunch.

Pair it with White Island

Private island-hopping tours do both in one day — see the best Camiguin tours.

How to get to Mantigue Island

  • Boats leave from the shore in San Roque, Mahinog, on the east side of the island — about 30–40 minutes by road from Mambajao.
  • Register and pay the entrance and boat fees at the departure point; the crossing takes roughly 15–20 minutes depending on the sea.
  • Tours from Mambajao and the beach resorts include transport to the jump-off point.

Insider tips

  • Go in the morning when the sea is usually calmer.
  • Do not touch or stand on coral, and never feed the fish.
  • Trips can be suspended in rough weather — keep a buffer day.
  • Bring cash: fees are paid locally and there are no ATMs on the island.
